I believe this is kind of unfair. If you have never been to a college/university before, THIS WILL BE A SLAP IN THE FACE. It doesn't matter what school you go to! There will ALWAYS be extra costs on top of tuition!
Personally, I agree with Anne: If you do not have the passion for it, you will not last long. And the only way you can be satisfied is if you truly work for it. You can not learn everything in a classroom. The teacher is only a tool to help and instruct. One of the best ways (in my opinion) to learn, is to experiment!
As I said, you have to work for what you want and you can't just sit around and expect the teacher to do everything for you. They are nothing but a guide and mentor for you to learn and grow from.
I am highly considering Blanche but I am also keeping my mind open to every possibility for me.

Hi 'Angry Student',
I'm not certain if you are commenting on your own difficulty in procuring a model for your Fashion Styling final (we do have an entire facebook group devoted to this), or if you are referring to another comment made previously. What I can tell you is that as a member of the Fashion Department, and a Blanche Macdonald Fashion Merchandising graduate, we do take your comments very seriously. Generally, the following criteria are taken into account when referring students/graduates for opportunities: attendance, work ethic, experience level , general attitude etc . Every student/graduate who walks out this door is a representation of Blanche Macdonald, and as such we want to reflect positively! That said, as the Career Director, I can assure you that you are not penalized or 'black listed' for voicing concerns. Further, from the moment you begin your studies with BMC, you are offered resources to help you build your career, which as you correctly stated is largely based on networking. These resources never expire. Unlike other learning institutions you can come back to BMC ten years later for career advice , mentoring and resources. We are measured by the success of our graduates, and believe it or not... we do actually care! I encourage you to reach out to me, (mel@blanchemacdonald.com) so we can address your concerns together, and move forward. I look forward to hearing from you.
~ Sincerely Mel ...on behalf of the Fashion Department at Blanche Macdonald Centre.

It's the EXACT same in the fashion program... SUCH a joke- but if we say anything public about it, we will NEVER get a job in the area because of all the networking.. they would pretty much make sure you don't work in BC in this industry if you bad mouth anything about this program

I have always been eager to go to BMC for global makeup, but i have a lot of questions in my minds which i don't know to whom i should consult. then I read all the stories/comments above and frankly speaking those are shocking me (especially the negative ones).
actually, i have sent my application though i would consider this as a 2nd thought. however, I have been wondering one thing since we must provide our own models then if we can't find the models then we are definitely failed/ thrown out of the class?? (like the one i read for airbrushing that we need to provide model who is willingly to be completely almost naked)
I want to know more stories from International students' side, as i'll be ones (i'm from Indonesia) and have never been in Canada before.
i would highly appreciate if there's any current students or past graduates who are willing to help&talk about it with me. i have so much questions.
i'll leave my email add : jejelynn@yahoo.com

Meghan, interesting response. That’s awesome that you’re sticking to your dreams. I actually received my Makeup diploma from JCI last year but I felt that I did not get enough of the right training so I am now at Blanche Macdonald in their Global Makeup Program. While I enjoyed my time at JCI, I am really enjoying my time right now at Blanche Macdonald. The Blanche teachers are super helpful and the open door policy for anyone is an extremely comforting feeling for the school (this is not as opposed to JCI). Blanche has a great atmosphere for a makeup school. It has realistic settings with people that have experience like no other and a passion and drive for what they do and the help that you get is amazing! They have someone there for you every step of the way!

I have to agree with "Loved it" (20th poster from the top). I am trying to get funded to go to BMC. I already have my spa practioners from WCCMT and I am now looking int oesthetics to further my education into the spa industry.
School is hard and the tuitions are costly, no matter where you go. You are either there to learn and take it seriously, or complain about everything and get nowhere...which is where most of these complainers have probably gotten.
These schools only offer you the BASICS into the spa industry...so PAY ATTENTION, LEARN AND TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. Want to be a professional? Network, volunteer, talk to people....keep working on your education into the spa program...work, take advanced programs of your liking and learn even more.
Don't expect BMC to cater to you...it's upto YOU to make yourself something...it's upto YOU to find work in that industry. It's upto YOU to continue on with your education, learn and do more. 6 months to 1 year of school at BMC teaches what you need to BASICALLY learn....YOU apply it and carry on, learn more, do more...work, get experience, take more courses and up yourself.
This industry is a PASSION, not a job because you think it's fun. This type of work requires that you remove yourself and CARE for the CLIENT...after all, they are going into a spa and paying $$$ to be taken care of...don't you think they want to be pampered by someone has passion for the job and cares about them? If you were to pay $$$ for a spa treatment, wouldn't you want the same?
If you're here to complain, obviously, you didn't take the course seriously and have no passion for it.
