Cap is more industry orientated but the program gives you the flexibility to be as creative as you want. Cap basically trains you for the service field but at the same time gives you opportunities to showcase your creative side. I can't really comment on SFU or Emily Carr. I've seen work from both and both have really good stuff.

I find that Capilano university is very broad, uptight and industry based.
As for SFU and Emily Carr, are more on the artistic and creative side of film making.

How does it compare to the SFU film program? Any idea? I am taking a giant leap from a navy career into the film industry so I need to find out as much as I can.

The course is 4 days a week for the first year in first semester (9-12, 130 - 430) 2 classes a day and it varies in second semester. Really depends on the scheduling and the section you're in. Also in those 4 days you could have a class in the morning and not in the afternoon, like I said it really depends on what section you get put in, and for the projects you'll be busy a lot more busy

It's getting harder to get into the program, I know there has been definitely increased competition over the years but overall if you show some interest and prepare properly for your interview (and have decent grades in high school) you should be alright. I'm not sure about specific requirements these days, there wasn't any when I applied they even discouraged us to send in past work which I thought was a bit strange (although I know people who sent in stuff anyway and got praise for it) so who knows... You might want to call admissions and ask about that one. Admission, compared to other film schools is pretty cheap, I mean it's no steal or anything (around 8k a year) but it is pretty cheap.

Interesting info, James! Thanx. Few questions though - is it hard to get into the program? Are there any specific requirements (like essay, etc.)? What's competition for admission?
