Hi All
I've been accepted to Humber in the Industrial design program. Does anyone know someone who has done this and if so, what has been their experience, design facilities, professors, overall comments. Thanks

I really enjoyed this article all in all. I remember when i first looked intor Humber 3 years ago, I wasnt sure if i wanted acting or Film. 3 years later, i am now accepted into the program. I hope it is as intense as you describe. I love cinematography and am excited to see how difficult it will be. I love the challenge, I enjoyed reading this article as well. I read this article around when it was first posted. I have pretty much all of Humber's program books. I used to read them every night before bed, just waiting for the day i get my chance. I am not nervous it wont be what I expect, because i am expecting the best and worse. Of course im not looking forward to debt, but like you said, OSAP will help in some sense or form. I agree with what you said about deadlines too. My friend applied for fashion at ryerson, and didnt bother to see what the next step was. Its amazing, usually im the unorganized one... not the other way around. I highly reccommend spending a 6months to a year preparing portfolios. Like in the creative photography, they take one look at your work and say what they think. They are not going to soften up just because you didnt put effort into it. I know this, because i left it to last minute to print my photos and put my dark room photos in a portfolio. I never suggest work and school. That is what i did all through highchool. I think 10 hours max is okay.
Im not sure what else to say other than Glassbourg seems awesome, he was organizing the assessments to apply to humber ft production.
As for having a 2nd career to fall back on, i dont think i will ever do that. Personally because i know myself. If i only have one choice, i will go with it, and make it better. If i have a second career option, I am more likely to quit what im doing to experience change. I think sticking with a school is good, but for everyone deciding on university and college, its never too late to drop out. Try not to make it to the 4th year. or transfer to a different school same program and its always good to take a general studies course before. Like the Media foundations. I took a similar course that covered painting, film, photography, animation, illustration, etc.
Well im off to sleep, early start tomorrow preparing for college and all :) Lots of fun budgeting to go through.
Good luck to those who are reading these to pursue humber! I might see you there!

I am so excited to go to Humber for Film and Television Production. Its going to be what i make it. I want to make it SPECTACULAR! Infastically amazing. A spell bounding experience. A banana boat of a ride.

I can agree with Jam about the stupid film drama stuff.... I wouldnt want to be around JAM and CB anyday. You guys are so negative, and its killing my vibe.

CB is so right, i actually ended up reading this article because i'm looking for guidance. 3rd year is a bunch of bullshit and no one is happy with the program so much that we're having a big meeting with the dean. I actually met Jackie Chan in my first year where he ironically taught self defense. Honestly don't go to this school, it's a waste of your time, you can learn this shit on your own, just go do an internship on your own and it'll be more help to you.
As for CB please leave your e-mail so i can talk to you about the program and industry further, I don't think I'd hate it as much as you do but I sure as hell am hating the journey to that career.
And Bob, Humber is not designed to filter anyone out, they only care about money now a days, and not to say the professors aren't great a lot of them are amazing but there's so much backstabbing and stupid film drama that even the worst kids can rise to the top.

Wait let me get this right CB. You're blaming pretty much everything else cuz you chose a career that just isn't right for you. It is an all or nothing thing and thats the important part. Humber's Film and TV course tended to filter out most of the people that just weren't passionate enough or weren't right for a career in Film. [It's called Film and TV but the TV is just an added-on thing.]

Granted I haven't worked in the industry as long as you but I've met mostly really cool and fun people.

I'm sure if I worked in a job I hated it I would hate everyone in it too so I can see where you are coming from...but in the end you should've dropped out of a film early on and chosen something else.

Maybe try the 1 yr Radiation Safety program at Algonquin College. You may end up with a great job at a nuclear plant with a really good future. Once you're in the possibilities are endless.

Yeah...
I went to Humber College for Film and TV and it was the worst decision I ever made in my life.
It wasn't just the tuition and the three years wasted, but it had long, long term effects that have lasted to this day.
I do agree with the writer about the film and TV being all or nothing. Although I am currently working in television, I hate my career and am probably going back to school next year.
If you can, get a university degree. A college diploma is a total waste of time and money unless you are a dedicated tradesperson. Otherwise get a university degree. You couldn't imagine how many doors are closed to you with only a diploma, including continuing education. You can't apply to law school or teacher's college with a diploma. It may also effect your ability to move to another country.
Also, film and television as business sucks. It's really one of the worst industries ever. In my eight years experience in the field, I've never met one person who enjoys it. You will never meet bigger losers than the kind of losers you meet in media. It's amazing. I actually had to start working with autistic children on weekends just to remind me that people aren't complete wastes.
Sure I sound bitter, but I had a perfect storm type thing happen to me where I picked the wrong school, wrong major and wrong program. At the time, I enjoyed myself and film school is fun, but it's better to get a solid, well-rounded education.
If I could get in a time machine and go back ten years I would.
In 2005, I tried to return my diploma and told them I thought it was broken. They didn't go for it.
