This program was a waste of time and considerable money for me. That we had to buy equipment from the director's friend should have been my first clue. That I got ripped off and never received a refund from that store should be another clue. One semester, I did not receive any personal feedback for 6 weeks. Rather than helping, the instructors tended to categorize and only value the superstars of the class (who were scooped up by the instructor's firms). The rest of us were left to wallow in our ignorance with no sympathy from the instructors who ignored anyone who did not already know the applications inside and out. Instruction? Leave that up to the classrooms-in-a-book assignments which were copied onto our desktops.

"Completing this program gave me a sense of satisfaction at first, but when I really thought about it, I don’t think I’ve learned enough to succeed in the real world."
I too being a graduate of the EMD program, and have been working full time in the field at a firm since the day I left the program, and also been very busy doing freelance for both other firms and personal clients.
I think that anyone looking for a quick fix or fast solution is never going to get it.
I think you do get "a taste of a lot fast", but its up to you to find what you want and go after it. Otherwise how do you expect to ever get anywhere? I think the the people from my program (EMD) that get jobs or are doing well and working in the field all have one thing in common, we all went after what we wanted, past what the instructors gave us, past what they expected us to do.
That is my advice to anyone that takes any program.

Hey Andy,
I just checked it out and I get what you're saying.
"EMD grads get the 1st year of the Communication & Ideation Design Program for free."
http://www.langara.bc.ca/creative-arts/electronic-media/careers.html
I just asked the program head, and she's stated that the CID program is actually a 2 year program. I hope this clarifies your question.

So by taking this program you are able to get a year of CID program for free? As I read on their site. But on their site it seems to me that the entire CID program is one year (unless I am missing something). So that means the whole CID program is free if you take this course? Seems too good to be true.

The program is indeed one year long. There are continuous programs that follow the EMD Program, which will elaborate more and go in-depth the different elements of design.
The program seems to be always growing, so its hard to keep up with the cirriculum. You are better off checking out the website :)

Thanks for the correction! It's 3 terms, so I assume that's 12 months long.

It says it's 24 months in that guide, but that can't be right since the program's website says it's a 1 year certificate program.. back to my original question.. Was the program the full year (12 months) or a regular 2 semester (8 months)?

Hey Zee,
The program lasts 3 terms. You can find an outline for EMD, and other design programs here. http://www.artschoolreviews.ca/articles/2009-asr-tuition-guide
