I am a recent graduate of this school and I really have to stress how terrible the management of the school is. As much as there are good qualities about the program, many people in this program would agree with me, that there are just as many problems with it.

Not one, two, but many of the instructors are either not qualified enough or extremely terrible at their job. Students are often forced to deal with ridiculous situations like not receiving their marks on time, receiving unfair marks, attending classes that go LITERALLY 8 hours OVER the scheduled class – where the professors (AND many other students) feel that it is totally fine and natural, as if students do not have a life outside of school, and if they do, they aren’t dedicated enough as students.

It is extremely upsetting, because this school supposedly has such a great reputation, yet these negative, yet TRUE things are not being heard. There are too many problems with the management of the school and because of that, I often wish someone told me this before I applied.

I come here to write this because I am currently dealing with yet another unnecessary issue, where I have to nag the administration to receive something that other universities would have automatically provided me. It is ridiculous.

Hi there! I was wondering.. can you give us an example of how good your portfolio has to be? I believe art is very subjective so in terms of skill, how good do you have to be to be chosen? And also, what would be a good average + good portfolio to be chosen.

Is the interview in front of other students or are you in a room with a professor and a bunch of otehr people? Very nerve wracking if you ask mee

In response to quick start, the prices will have changed from when I started, but friends of mine who took the class said that it was worth it, and gives you a chance to meet other students. As for my interview process, its very easy and structured. Just answer the questions honestly and look interested and engaged. They usually ask why Ryerson, why Interior Design, what else have you done, if your not right from highschool. Just relax, they want to know if you have the drive and passion to make it.

Hey, as far as I know, you need to have an interview to be accepted. Check Ryerson for early acceptance dates, they are later than other universities, so don’t be worried. In terms of portfolio vs. grades: its about balance, you could have a 98% average, but if your portfolio is poor, then no. But there are a lot of people applying and its between you and someone else, your grades will give you a step above.

Hey, if you didnt have a interwiew yet, can you still get a early acceptance. Do you think alot of people apply for interior design? And if so do they choose to people with higher marks or the people with a better portfolio?

Just wanted to clarify something in the article regarding 4th year graduation rates. Ryerson has both spring and fall convocation and as many 4th year students cannot graduate until they have completed their internship requirements, many do in fact graduate in the fall. So the picture is not a black as it might look. Actually about 82% of any first year incoming class graduates.

If I might give you some advice about the application process, it is to show diversity in your portfolio. We want to know if you think spatially (rather than in 2D which would make you a better graphic designer). Also it’s a coloured world out there so avoid only showing black and white work. Slip your sketchbook into your bag before you come and finally relax and enjoy yourself. You are not going to the dentist.

Can someone give a little more insight on the interview/testing process? Is it a panel interview? What are some types of questions that we should prepare for? Also, is there any other type of test beyond the drawing one? Any insight from someone who has gone through this process would be very helpful. Thank you!

Hi Guys – I just a few more questions for any former students. Firstly, did any of you do the summer quick start and if so, was it worth the cost? It’s more then an entire course! I would love to do it but am not sure if I can afford it right now.
